This Ohio beach town offers a plethora of ways to spend a day, weekend or beyond.

Nestled along an 8-mile stretch of Lake Erie’s south shore, Huron is known for waterfront dining, shopping, parks, beaches and marinas. “We are a small community with big options to enjoy, including our diverse amount of dining and what we like to call ‘watering holes,’ ” says Amy Roldan, executive director of the Huron Chamber of Commerce. “Whether you come by car, boat, scooter, bike or golf cart, we invite you to come and see us.”

Plates for Every Palate:
No matter what you’re hungry for, Huron will satisfy every appetite. Specialties of the house at Costa Azul Mexican Restaurant (costaazulmexican.com) include fajitas, burritos and chimichangas. Famous for such house specials as prime rib and filet mignon, The Angry Bull Steakhouse (angrybullsteakhouse.com) also features a generous assortment of seafood on the menu, including cold-water lobster and Alaskan King Crab — and of course, Lake Erie perch. Since 1991, Huron Pizza House (pizzahousehuron.com) has been the place to partake in America’s universal pie, as well as calzones, pasta, subs and salads.

Natural Escape: It’s easy to see why birders make a beeline for the 472-acre Sheldon Marsh State Nature Preserve (ohiodnr.gov). More than 300 species visit the preserve, one of the last remaining undeveloped stretches of shoreline. Known for its large walleye population, as well as rock, smallmouth and white bass, and yellow perch, Lake Erie has earned the reputation of being an angler’s paradise. The mile-long fishing pier at Huron Pier and Lighthouse is famous for great catches year-round. Walkers, runners and bikers will enjoy the 1.2-mile-long Lake Shore Electric Trail. During summer months, enjoy outdoor activities

Private Rentals: Located on a private beach 7.6 miles from Cedar Point, Willow Grove Lake House (airbnb.com/rooms/43274145), an Airbnb accommodation, provides the ideal family getaway. The house, which sleeps eight, is 200 yards from the lake and features a hot tub and grill. Beach N’ Peaks Lake House (byowner.com/vacation-rentals-details/house/-2057469), a private rental, is located about 10 minutes from Cedar Point. This newly built waterfront homestead sleeps 13 and includes more than 2,300 square feet of space, including a patio and fire pit and access to a private beach.
