With 5,700 square feet and unobstructed lake views, the front porch at Chautauqua Institution’s legacy Athenaeum Hotel is an invitation to sit down with a book, order a cocktail and get lost in the surroundings. “It’s one of the most peaceful places to be,” says Emily Morris, chief brand officer for the institution.
An “opera invasion” is a real possibility during summer months when performing arts students stage pop-ups throughout the grounds and often at the hotel. Gaze across the water at mariners, see some of them cast a line, and listen to the beachfront laughter.
