In Love with Western New York: Sprawling Porches
Discover ways to laze the day away with a delicious meal, refreshing drink and marvelous unobstructed lake views.
With 5,700 square feet and unobstructed lake views, the front porch at Chautauqua Institution’s legacy Athenaeum Hotel is an invitation to sit down with a book, order a cocktail and get lost in the surroundings. “It’s one of the most peaceful places to be,” says Emily Morris, chief brand officer for the institution.
An “opera invasion” is a real possibility during summer months when performing arts students stage pop-ups throughout the grounds and often at the hotel. Gaze across the water at mariners, see some of them cast a line, and listen to the beachfront laughter.
If you love to dine al fresco, the hotel’s Heirloom Restaurant — which will undergo extensive upgrades in 2025 following a $20-million fundraising campaign — serves dishes crafted with sustainability in mind, offering one more reason to feel good about indulging during your visit. chq.org
