Best Buzz — Strawberry Shots at the Groove Bar & Grill
Kelleys Island’s iconic strawberry shots have drawn visitors for more than 30 years — and they’re still made to order, berry by berry.
For more than 30 years, visitors have been coming to Kelleys Island for strawberry shots. This confectionery treat, served in a hollowed-out strawberry, started at Bag the Moon and can now be found at the Groove.
“People come to the island just to get the strawberry shots,” says Shannon Sedivec, who bought the seasonal bar in 2025, then remodeled and rebranded it. “It blows my mind, but they do.”
The shot is so popular that the bar employs a full-time worker exclusively to core strawberries. Made to order, it features a sweet strawberry liqueur poured directly into the berry and topped with whipped cream. The bar also serves a “dirty” strawberry shot made with chocolate liqueur and Ghirardelli chocolate, alongside a nonalcoholic version for kids. grooveki.com
