Best Brunch — Tulip’s Brunch House

A longtime chef’s Mayville brunch spot serves up family recipes, house-made favorites and plenty of community love.

Travis Bensink has spent nearly 20 years cooking for hotels, restaurants, and the historic Chautauqua Institution in New York. Looking to strike out on his own, he opened Tulip’s Brunch House in nearby Mayville.

Judging from the reaction, it’s a home run. “We’ve had great community support,” Bensink says. “Boaters have supported us. Snowmobilers have supported us. Sometimes you’d see 30 snowmobiles in our lot.”

It’s a true family business, with his wife Tawn and their children also working there. Everything’s made in-house, and Bensink recommends the French toast brule, featuring brioche bread dipped in pot de crème and seared — “It’s like candy,” he says — and the Brunch Madam, a house take on the classic sandwich loaded with ham, Swiss cheese, a poached egg, bechamel and hollandaise. instagram.com/tulipsbrunchhouse
