When the USS Cleveland was welcomed into the fleet — on the shores of its namesake city — on May 16, it made history as the first U.S. Navy warship ever to be commissioned in Ohio. Designed to sail in both the open ocean and shallower shoreline waters, the vessel is the final Freedom-variant littoral combat ship built for the Navy.
