Kalahari Waterpark Expands in Sandusky, Ohio

A major overhaul of the resort's outdoor space means more to do, more seating and lots more fun.

We tend to think of waterparks as winter destinations, but a new expansion at Kalahari in Sandusky, Ohio, makes the resort an ideal spot to hit right now — both for those who like to lounge and for those who like to jump (more on that in a bit.)

Specifically, we're talking about the 3-acre Zambezi Outdoor Waterpark. And this summer’s opening will include the unveiling of some spectacular new features.

Among the new items is a pool Kalahari bills as its biggest outdoor pool in any of its four resorts (Wisconsin Dells, the Poconos in New York and Round Rock, Texas, in addition to Sandusky). The 15,000-square-foot pool features a zero-depth entry on one side, and most of it is 42 inches deep, making it kid-friendly.

The pool has tanning ledges on the other three sides, including lounge chairs set in about eight inches of water. There are also fountains throughout the pool.

Kalahari’s zipline experience, which opened in 2018, has undergone a renovation, featuring four towers at each corner of the waterpark. Additionally, the experience includes a new freefall jump tower, where hearty souls can leap off a 50-foot-tall tower and experience about 10 to 15 feet of freefall before a jumpbelt catches them and lowers them to the ground.

The fun isn’t just outdoors, either. Kalahari features an indoor water park and the Big Game Room, with a variety of activities, from mini golf to laser tag to arcade games to escape rooms. And all Kalahari resorts — including the one in Sandusky — feature lodging, convention, spa and salon facilities.
