Best Pedestrian Connection — Gordie Howe Bridge
The new Gordie Howe Bridge connects Detroit and Windsor with a free cross-border trail for walkers and bicyclists.
After years of planning — and more than a few obstacles to clear — the new Gordie Howe Bridge is officially open, providing a second connection over the Detroit River between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario. It also provides a free multi-use trail, allowing walkers and bicyclists to cross the border (remember to bring your passport). The trail wasn’t originally part of the plan, but it was added in after meetings with stakeholders, who saw it as a worthwhile addition, given the rise of cycling tourism. And much like the new bridge provides highway-to-highway connections for vehicles, the trail will connect directly to the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail in Canada and the Joe Louis Greenway in Detroit. gordiehoweinternationalbridge.com
