Where to Eat in Ontario
Embark on a mouthwatering journey through the diverse tastes that define Lake Erie’s northern shore.

Wine Country Wonders
Canada’s wine regions are producing some of the most exciting blends in the world. Start with Sprucewood Shores Estate Winery in Amherstburg — Ontario’s only beachfront winery — to enjoy a captivating setting while sipping a flavorful fruit wine or cider. In Harrow, North 42 Degrees Estate Winery provides acclaimed wines to enjoy alongside the on-site restaurant and the fragrant serenity of a lavender farm. For calming vibes, make your way to Bonnieheath Estate Lavender & Winery, featuring lavender products, wines and a delicious cherry cider.
“I love visiting Bonnieheath because they are dog-friendly and have a bed-and-breakfast on-site,” says Megan Carman, communications coordinator at Ontario’s Southwest regional tourism organization.
For a taste of Canada’s iconic ice wine, Inniskillin Wines in Niagara-on-the-Lake is a must-visit. Alternatively, embrace the countryside charm at Skye Chase Estate Winery in Elgin County (opening this spring at the former Quai du Vin Estate Winery), known for its panoramic views and award-winning chardonnay and pinot noir.
Craft Brews
Ontario’s craft beer scene is booming. Banded Goose Brewing Co. in Kingsville offers a relaxing atmosphere, handcrafted beers and mouthwatering pub fare at the Goose Kitchen + Bar. Enjoy a local brew with a view at The Erie Beach Hotel in Port Dover, overlooking the lake. Backyard Brewing, now located inside the Cider Keg Farm Market in Norfolk County, adds a vibrant twist to enjoying craft beers while browsing local produce and artisanal goods.
Looking for a morning brew? Opt for the Grove Hotel & Joe. Hot+Cold in Kingsville, a trendy spot with local ingredients, excellent coffee and fresh pastries.
“I love spending time exploring the wineries and breweries along Lake Erie,” says Carman.
Distilleries & Spirits
Ontario boasts a rich history of distilling. Cured Craft Brewing Co. in Leamington offers handcrafted spirits, including vodka, gin and whiskey, made with local ingredients. Wolfhead Distillery in Amherstburg also is renowned for its premium whisky and flavored vodkas. For a taste of history, explore Windsor’s Walkerville district, home to the iconic Hiram Walker & Sons Ltd., producer of world-renowned Canadian Club whisky and J.P. Wiser’s whisky.
Pickerel, Pizza & More
If you’ve never had a Windsor-style pizza, you’re missing out. Characterized by shredded pepperoni, canned mushrooms, local Galati cheese and a crispy cornmeal crust, it’s become a regional favorite. Grab a slide at Armando’s Pizza or a variety of other local pizza shops.
“Riva Italian Restaurant in Port Stanley has great pizza,” Carman adds. “They had a chef move there from Italy to ensure the quality.”
Craving more diverse flavors? Explore Windsor-Essex’s culinary scene with Follow the Flavors, a digital multicultural food trail showcasing cuisine from around the world.
“Windsor-Essex is one of the most ethnically diverse communities in Canada,” says Holly Ing, manager of content marketing for Tourism Windsor Essex. “At the heart of all cultures is food; it tells a story that connects people socially.”
For a true taste of Canada, savor the delicate white fish, pickerel, a popular dish from spring to fall. With a mild, sweet taste and flaky texture, this delicacy is a menu favorite at many local restaurants. Discover an unforgettable culinary adventure at Twisted Lemon in Cayuga, where a monthly changing menu showcases the freshest local ingredients and innovative flavors. Ontario’s stunning lakeshores provide the perfect backdrop for memorable meals. Grab a seat at Canada’s largest beachside patio at GTs on the Beach in Port Dover. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, it’s a must-stop for Lake Erie perch and pickerel dishes. In Lowbanks, Hippo’s at Mohawk Marina is a casual spot featuring outdoor dining and famous Lake Erie perch tacos.
